What it is

  • A suspension bridge connecting Kobe City and Awaji City across the Akashi Strait
  • Opened for public use on April 5, 1998, as the world's longest suspension bridge
  • Carries the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway with a total length of 3,911 meters
  • Nicknamed the Pearl Bridge and cost approximately 500 billion yen to construct
