What it is

  • A stone lighthouse designed by Richard Henry Brunton on the western side of Matsuhozaki.
  • The structure first lit on June 14, 1871, and was later electrified in 1933.
  • A National Important Cultural Property located within the Setonaikai National Park.
  • The facility became unmanned in 1981 after over a century of operation.

  • The original lighthouse tower constructed using granite from Ieshima.
