Eshima Bridge
江島大橋
A massive rigid frame bridge famous for its steep appearance and dramatic height over the Nakaumi Lake.
What it is
- A five-span continuous rigid frame box girder bridge connecting Sakaiminato and Matsue.
- Opened for public use on October 16, 2004 to span the Nakaumi Lake.
- Commonly known as Betabumizaka after appearing in a popular television commercial.
- Managed by the Sakaiminato Management Association with a total length of 1,446.2 meters.
What to see
- A steep 6.1 percent gradient on the Shimane side of the structure.
- A 5.1 percent gradient rising from the Tottori side of the bridge.
- The highest point of the bridge reaching 44.7 meters above the water.
- A central span stretching 250 meters between the main support pillars.
