A massive rigid frame bridge famous for its steep appearance and dramatic height over the Nakaumi Lake.

What it is

  • A five-span continuous rigid frame box girder bridge connecting Sakaiminato and Matsue.
  • Opened for public use on October 16, 2004 to span the Nakaumi Lake.
  • Commonly known as Betabumizaka after appearing in a popular television commercial.
  • Managed by the Sakaiminato Management Association with a total length of 1,446.2 meters.

What to see

  • A steep 6.1 percent gradient on the Shimane side of the structure.
  • A 5.1 percent gradient rising from the Tottori side of the bridge.
  • The highest point of the bridge reaching 44.7 meters above the water.
  • A central span stretching 250 meters between the main support pillars.
