Gokakudo is a unique pentagonal Edo-period building, a rare example of early agricultural technology.
What it is
- A pentagonal building in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
- Designed by Edo period village headman Iizuka Iga-shichi.
- Designated an Ibaraki Prefecture historic site.
- The only tangible item remaining from the Iizuka family.
What to see
- A pentagonal building with a thatched regular pentagonal pyramid roof.
- Central height is about 6 meters, one side is 4.7 meters.
- Restored gear-driven thresher from 1833 inside.
- Restored rice huller component also remains inside.
