What it is

  • A Shinto shrine enshrining Honda Wake no Mikoto and Takehayasusa no O no Mikoto.
  • Formed in 1869 by merging the ancient Hikawa and Tanaka Hachiman shrines.
  • Serves as the spiritual center for seven districts within Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward.
  • Renamed to its current name in 1871 after the Meiji Restoration.
