A historic neighborhood shrine in Bunkyo Ward formed by merging two ancient sites, featuring a rebuilt mid-century main hall.
What it is
- A Shinto shrine enshrining Honda Wake no Mikoto and Takehayasusa no O no Mikoto.
- Formed in 1869 by merging the ancient Hikawa and Tanaka Hachiman shrines.
- Serves as the spiritual center for seven districts within Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward.
- Renamed to its current name in 1871 after the Meiji Restoration.
