Monet's pond

What it is

• An irrigation pond built around 1980 using spring water from Mount Koga
• Officially named Namonaki Ike which translates to Pond with No Name
• A 400 square meter body of water that gained social media fame in 2015
• Clear water caused by a lack of nutrients in the surrounding rhyolite rock

What to see

• Colorful carp introduced by local residents swimming in the clear water
• Water lilies blooming across the surface of the spring-fed pond
• A barrier-free boardwalk that runs along the entire perimeter for visitors
• The adjacent Nemichi Shrine located right next to the water

When to go

• Early June until September to see the water lilies in bloom
• Any time of year as the water temperature remains constant at 14 degrees

Getting there

• Accessible by taking a bus from the Horado Kiwi Plaza stop
