Moroto Garden is a historic private estate with a beautiful pond garden and important cultural properties.
What it is
- Originally a hermitage in the Kamakura period.
- Became a residence for the Yabe clan in the Muromachi period.
- Purchased by Moroto Seiroku in 1884.
- Site area is 26,450 square meters.
What to see
- Six buildings designated Important Cultural Properties in 2002.
- Main residence built around 1889.
- Main gate built around 1894.
- Pond garden designed by Yoshiyasu Kodaira.
- Brick warehouse built in 1895.
When to go
- Open to the public for limited periods in spring.
- Open to the public for limited periods in autumn.
