Mount Hinokiboramaru

What it is

• The fourth highest peak in the Tanzawa Mountain range at 1,601 meters.
• A designated part of the Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park.
• A mountain also known by the secondary name Aogatake.
• A natural habitat for large mammals including Asian black bears and sika deer.

What to see

• Azaleas blooming across the mountain slopes during the late spring.
• Beech forests that have been part of the landscape since the 1980s.
• The Aogatake Sanso mountain hut located just east of the summit.
• The Tsutsuji Shindo trail which serves as a short route to the top.

When to go

• Late May to early June to see the azaleas in bloom.

Getting there

• Take a bus from Shin-Matsuda Station to the West Tanzawa Visitor Center.
