What it is

  • A concrete lighthouse standing on a cliff on Owa Island off the Osumi Peninsula.
  • One of the 50 Lighthouses of Japan located within Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park.
  • The original iron structure was designed by Richard Henry Brunton and first lit in 1871.
  • The current structure was rebuilt in 1950 after the original was destroyed in the war.
