安養寺
An'yō-ji Temple: a historic Jishū temple in Kyoto with important Buddhist connections.
What it is
- Jishū sect temple, mountain name Jienzan.
- Founded by Saichō during the Enryaku era.
- Hōnen lived here in 1175, spreading Jōdo-shū teachings.
- Shinran became Hōnen's disciple here in 1201.
