Ariyoshi Hie Shrine is a historic site on a shell mound with unique artifacts.

What it is

  • Dedicated to the deity Ōnamuchi-no-mikoto.
  • Originally named Sannō-sha, renamed Hie Shrine in 1868.
  • Formed by merging Koyasu, Dairokuten, and Dosojin shrines in 1910.

What to see

  • Shrine stands on a horseshoe-shaped shell mound.
  • Shells, pottery, and stone tools are scattered on grounds.
  • Four subsidiary shrines: Hachiman-sha, Kasuga-sha, Katori-sha, Yasaka-sha.
  • A Dewa Sanzan monument is on the north side.

  • 12-minute walk from Kamatori Station.
