What it is

  • Founded during Empress Jito's reign (686-697).
  • Originally called Numito Myojin.
  • Enshrines Hondawake-no-mikoto and Okinagatarashihime-no-mikoto.
  • Renamed Asahi Hachiman Shrine in 1870.

  • Shrine crest is Hidari Mitsudomoe.
  • Current shrine building constructed in 1889.
  • Ancient tumulus located behind the main hall.
