- Opened on September 20, 1958.
- Uses hot spring heat to breed crocodiles and grow tropical plants.
- Designated a museum under the Museum Law on March 10, 1976.

- World's largest number of crocodile species, with 17 types.
- Only place in Japan breeding Nishilessar pandas.
- Only place in Japan exhibiting Amazonian manatees.
