Awasu Shrine

What it is

• Founded in 1606 or 1607.
• Dedicated to Sukunahikona-no-mikoto, Sugawara no Michizane, and Sarutahiko-no-kami.
• Worshipped for safe childbirth, child-rearing, and academics.
• Dosojinja Shrine and Tenjinsha Shrine merged here in 1908.

What to see

• Protected Japanese black pine and cedar trees.
• A group of Koshin-to stone monuments.
• Four chikaraishi (strength stones).
• Two noboribaseki (banner foundation stones).
