Bishamon-dō Temple

What it is

• A Tendai sect temple, formally Gohōzan Ankokuin Izumo-ji.
• One of the Kyoto Go-monzeki of the Tendai sect.
• Rebuilt in 1195 as Gohōzan Izumo-ji.

What to see

• The main hall, built in 1666, houses Bishamonten.
• Chokushi-mon gate, relocated from the Imperial Palace in 1693.
• Bansuien garden.
• Ten structures are Kyoto City Tangible Cultural Properties.
