Chōkō Shrine
銚港神社
Ancient shrine in Choshi City, dedicated to multiple deities, with a historic ginkgo tree.
What it is
- Founded between 717 and 724.
- Enshrines Kuraokami-no-kami, Shinatsuhiko-no-kami, and Shinatsuhime-no-kami.
- Also enshrines Sugawara Michizane-ko and Kagutsuchi-no-kami.
- Formerly known as Ryuzo Gongen.
What to see
- A 300-year-old ginkgo tree stands left of the torii gate.
- A votive tablet inscribed by Shigeru Yoshida.
- Kotohira-gu Shrine is a subsidiary shrine.
