Chōryū-ji Temple

What it is

• A Jodo sect Buddhist temple located in Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture.
• Founded in 1606 by the priest Ryorensha Kakuyo.
• Originally established as a hermitage under a pine tree called Kannonmatsu.
• The current temple structures were rebuilt in 1864 following a fire.

What to see

• Traditional temple buildings dating back to the mid-nineteenth century reconstruction.
• The site where the original Kannonmatsu pine tree once stood.

Getting there

• The temple is a five minute walk from Heiwadai Station.
