Choshoji Temple is a historic Rinzai Zen temple with a unique connection to a Scottish museum.

What it is

  • A Rinzai sect Daitoku-ji school temple.
  • Founded by Matsubara Shigeyuki, a Hojo clan vassal.
  • Keizan Osho, who died in 1554, was also a founder.

What to see

  • A Buddha statue from here is in Scotland.
  • The statue is in the National Museum of Scotland.
