Daikou-ji Temple is a historic pilgrimage site with ancient trees and statues.
What it is
- The 67th temple of the Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage.
- Founded in 742 as a branch of Todai-ji Temple.
- Rebuilt in 822 by Kukai.
- Main deity is Yakushi Nyorai.
What to see
- Current main hall, rebuilt in 1741.
- Nio-mon gate, rebuilt in 1796.
- Wooden seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai.
- Wooden seated statue of Tendai Daishi.
- Wooden plaque of "Daikou-ji" from 1267.
- Approximately 1,200-year-old Kaya tree.
