Eikō-ji Temple
永光寺 (古河市)
Eikoji Temple, a historic Shingon temple, is worth visiting for its statues and seasonal peony blooms.
What it is
- It is a Shingon Buzan sect temple.
- Priest Muzen founded it in 843.
- Temple grounds were completed in 1782.
- It is known as a "flower temple."
What to see
- An 8-meter stone Botan Kannon statue stands here.
- A large stone Fudo Myoo is enshrined.
- The main hall houses the principal image Fudo Myoo.
- Temple treasures include Dainichi Nyorai and Eleven-faced Kannon.
- A Chinese censer is also among the treasures.
- A hall memorial tower was built in 1791.
When to go
- 5000 peony plants bloom from April to May.
