- Founded by Kukai during the Konin era (810-824).
- Was a chokuganjo for Emperor Saga and Emperor Gotoba.
- Main deity is Godai Myoo.

- Main hall rebuilt in 1950.
- Enshrines a white deer associated with Emperor Nintoku.
