- A Soto Zen Buddhist temple founded by Taio Tokuyo in 1536
- Originally established as a branch of the nearby Hosei-ji Temple
- Served as a temporary building for the Akabane School during the early Meiji era
- Relocated to its current site in Kita Ward to accommodate railway construction
