Funayama Shrine is a historic site in Nara, offering a unique glimpse into ancient rock worship.
What it is
- A Shikinaisha shrine, formerly a village shrine.
- Dedicated to Funayama-no-kami, Kaguyama-no-mikoto, and Amaterasu Omikami.
- Transmits ancient Iwakura (sacred rock) worship.
- Moved to its current location around 1915.
What to see
- A large phallic stone, moved from the old shrine grounds.
- Three megaliths located behind the shrine.
- Megaliths are believed to be a boat stone.
