Gatsuzō-ji Temple

Gatsuzō-ji Temple is a historic Nichiren Buddhist temple in Sakai, rebuilt after the Osaka Siege.
What it is
- A Nichiren Buddhist temple.
- Founded as Honkōbō by Honkōin Nichiryō in 1495.
- Rebuilt with donations from merchant Aburaya Date Jōgen.
- Destroyed by fire in 1615 during the Summer Siege of Osaka.
What to see
- The main hall, rebuilt in 1712.
- The temple gate, rebuilt in 1850.
- The temple gate is a late Edo period structure.
- A camphor tree, preserved by Sakai City.
