Gion-ji Temple is a historic Soto Zen temple with unique architecture and notable graves.
What it is
- Soto Zen temple in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
- Founded when Tokugawa Mitsukuni invited Toko Shinketsu in 1683.
- Main deity is Shaka Nyorai (Sakyamuni Buddha).
- Became an independent head temple of the Soto sect Jushoshu.
