Godai-dō is a historic temple hall, rebuilt in 1604, and a National Important Cultural Property.

What it is

  • A Buddhist temple hall, part of Zuigan-ji Temple.
  • Originally built in 807 by Sakanoue Tamuramaro.
  • Rebuilt in 1604 by Date Masamune.
  • Oldest Momoyama architecture in the Tohoku region.

  • The current hall, rebuilt in 1604.
  • Wooden statues of the Five Wisdom Kings.
