Guhō-ji Temple
求法寺
Guhō-ji is a historic Tendai temple in Ōtsu, home to important cultural properties.
What it is
- A Tendai sect temple.
- Founded as the satobō of Enryaku-ji's 4th head priest An'e.
- Ryōgen rested here before entering Enryaku-ji.
- Completely burned down in 1571.
What to see
- The main image is a statue of Jie Daishi Ryōgen.
- The Gensan Daishi-dō, rebuilt in 1648.
- Gensan Daishi-dō is a Shiga Prefecture Tangible Cultural Property.
- A wooden seated statue of Jie Daishi, an Important Cultural Property.
- The statue was made in 1267 by In'nō and Kaien.
