Guhō-ji is a historic Tendai temple in Ōtsu, home to important cultural properties.

What it is

  • A Tendai sect temple.
  • Founded as the satobō of Enryaku-ji's 4th head priest An'e.
  • Ryōgen rested here before entering Enryaku-ji.
  • Completely burned down in 1571.

  • The main image is a statue of Jie Daishi Ryōgen.
  • The Gensan Daishi-dō, rebuilt in 1648.
  • Gensan Daishi-dō is a Shiga Prefecture Tangible Cultural Property.
  • A wooden seated statue of Jie Daishi, an Important Cultural Property.
  • The statue was made in 1267 by In'nō and Kaien.
