Hachiman Shrine in Kakamigahara, Gifu, is a historic site with a unique festival museum.
What it is
- A Hachiman shrine, also called Watari Hachiman Shrine.
- Founded in 1786, or possibly earlier in the Genroku era.
- Dedicated to Emperor Ōjin, a deified emperor.
- Shinmei Shrine is enshrined together here.
What to see
- Tsushima Shrine, a subsidiary shrine on the grounds.
- Kawamatsuri Museum, completed in 1986.
- Museum houses two festival floats and 176 festival tools.
- Museum also stores 36 old historical documents.
