Hasuge Shrine is a historic site in Kanagawa, preserving ancient steles and a sacred grove.

What it is

  • A shrine in Aikawa Town, Kanagawa Prefecture.
  • A major center for Shugendo in the Middle Ages.
  • Became a Gosha (village shrine) after the Meiji era.

  • Three large stone steles are preserved.
  • One stele from 1291 is 3.8 meters tall.
  • Another stele from 1552 is 2.3 meters tall.
  • A stele from 1841 is over 6 meters tall.
