What it is
- A coastal shrine complex dedicated to the deities Amaterasu Omikami and Susanoo-no-Mikoto
- Known as the protector of the night in Japan
- The current buildings were constructed by order of the shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu
- Consists of two main shrines named Kami-no-miya and Hishizumi-no-miya
