Hōgon-ji Temple
宝厳寺
Hōgon-ji Temple is a historic site, birthplace of Ippen, and a short walk from Dogo Onsen.
What it is
- A Jishu sect temple founded in 665.
- Ehime Prefecture designated historic site.
- Birthplace of the Buddhist monk Ippen.
- Rebuilt in 1292 and again in 2016.
What to see
- The mountain gate, which survived a 2013 fire.
- Rebuilt main hall and Ippen-dō Hall.
