Hōjō-in Temple

What it is

• A Shingon Buzan sect temple.
• Founded in 1629 by Kakuyo Sojo.
• Known as "Fukagawa no Enma" since the Edo period.
• The original principal image was Enma.

What to see

• Japan's largest Enma Daio statue.
• The statue is 3.5m tall, 4.5m wide, weighs 1.5 tons.
• 16 Hell and Paradise paintings created in 1784.
• Grave of kabuki actor Ichikawa Yaozo I.
