What it is

  • A Nichiren Buddhist temple founded by Kukai in the year 807.
  • Originally a Shingon sect temple known as Tsugen-ji before converting in 1277.
  • Served as a military base for Satomi Yoshitaka during the year 1538.
  • Rebuilt at the current location after being burned by the Hojo army.
