Hongyō-ji Temple
本行寺
Hongyo-ji is a historic Nichiren-shu temple, a significant center for the faith.
What it is
- A Nichiren-shu temple.
- Founded between 1469 and 1487 by Shochiin Nichiryu.
- Relocated in 1604, rebuilt at current site in 1616.
- A center for Nichiren-shu propagation in Mimasaka.
What to see
- The main hall, rebuilt in 1822.
- The kuri (monks' quarters), rebuilt in 1822.
- The bell tower gate, rebuilt by Nichijō.
- A sanmangen-dō (three-bay main hall).
