Honryū-ji Temple is a historic Nichiren-shū head temple, rebuilt after disasters, worth visiting for its cultural properties.

What it is

  • A head temple of the Nichiren-shū sect.
  • Given a fire-prevention mandala by Nichiren in 1261.
  • Rebuilt in 1558 and named Honryū-ji.

What to see

  • A sutra mound created in 1261.
  • A great hall built over the sutra mound in 1506.
  • A bronze bell is a cultural property.
