What it is

  • Head temple of the Hokke-shu Jinmon-ryu sect.
  • Founded in 1406 by Nichijin.
  • Became an imperial prayer temple for Emperor Go-Nara.
  • Relocated to its current site in 1591 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
