Hōrin-ji Temple
芳林寺
A Soto Zen temple in Saitama housing the Ota clan tablets, moved here in the sixteenth century to honor a mother.
What it is
- A temple of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism located in Saitama City.
- Founded by Kakuo Bunto who passed away in the year 1595.
- Originally named Jizo-ji and located in what is now Higashimatsuyama City.
- Renamed to honor Horin-in after Ota Ujisuke moved the temple to its current site.
What to see
- The main hall which houses the ancestral tablets of the Ota clan.

- The temple is a four-minute walk from Iwatsuki Station.
