Hōrin-ji Temple
宝林寺
Hōrin-ji Temple is a 17th-century Rinzai temple with a unique healing Buddha.
What it is
- A Rinzai school Myōshin-ji sect temple.
- Founded in 1617 by Kaun Genfu.
- Principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu.
- The 15th fudasho of the Chūno 88 Sacred Places.
What to see
- Yakushi Nyorai statue, called Nagare Yakushi.
- Yakushi-dō hall built to enshrine the statue.
- Kōbō Daishi is also enshrined here.
- Nagare Yakushi is believed to heal illnesses.
