Hōshō-in Temple

What it is

• A Shingon Chisan sect temple, founded in 1560.
• Commonly known as Sugito Fudō-son.
• Dedicated to Dainichi Nyorai as its principal image.
• Became a base along the Nikkō Kaidō in 1616.

What to see

• The main hall, rebuilt in 1934 and renovated in 2005.
• The Fudō-dō, rebuilt in 1849.
• Carvings of 16 lions on the Fudō-dō, one holding a ball.
• Three Fudō Myōō statues enshrined in the Fudō-dō.
