Hōzō-ji Temple
宝蔵寺
Hōzō-ji Temple is a historic Shingon Buddhist temple with unique Yakushi Nyorai statues.
What it is
- A Shingon-shu Chizan-ha Buddhist temple.
- Founded by Ryōsan during the Kōan era (1278-1288).
- Moved to its current location in the mid-Edo period.
- The move was to avoid flood damage.
What to see
- The principal image is Yakushi Nyorai.
- Two other Yakushi Nyorai statues are present.
- One statue is in the rebuilt octagonal hall.
- The octagonal hall was rebuilt in 2020.
