What it is

  • A historic agricultural reservoir selected as one of the top 100 in Japan.
  • Constructed between 1804 and 1845 with funding from Onodera Mennosuke.
  • Located at the foot of Mount Ota within the Kitakami Mountains.
  • Supplies water to thirteen local farming households for the Ariki Rice Terraces.

  • An earthen embankment measuring 180 meters long and 7.9 meters high.
  • A large body of water with a storage capacity of 405,000 cubic meters.
