An uninhabited volcanic island near Niijima that serves as a natural breakwater and a protected national park area.

What it is

  • An uninhabited island located in the Izu Islands under the jurisdiction of Niijima Village
  • A natural breakwater formed from rhyolite lava that protects the area from strong western winds
  • A designated National Park Special Protection Area with a circumference of approximately 2.6 kilometers

What to see

  • Clusters of soft corals growing along the eastern side of the island
  • Volcanic rock formations consisting of rhyolite lava from the Jinai-to volcano
  • Introduced rabbits which were confirmed to be living on the island in 1998
