Jōdono Shrine is a historic guardian shrine in Tokyo with important cultural properties.

What it is

  • A guardian shrine for Kami-Hoya Village.
  • Founded between 1249 and 1256.
  • Enshrines the wind gods Shinatsuhiko-no-mikoto and Shinatobe-no-mikoto.
  • Name changed to Jōdono Shrine during the Meiji period.

What to see

  • A pair of stone lanterns, designated cultural properties.
  • The stone lanterns were donated in 1682.
  • A wooden statue of Kurikara Fudo Myoo, a cultural property.
  • The statue is currently housed at Hoko-in Temple.
