Jōhō-ji Temple
城宝寺
Jōhō-ji Temple is a historic Buddhist site with a famous grave and ancient burial mound.
What it is
- Jōdo-shū Buddhist temple, founded in 811 by Kūkai.
- Main deity is Amitābha Tathāgata.
- Renamed Jōhō-ji in 1564 by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
- Easternmost of four temples on Terashita-dori.
What to see
- Benzaiten, one of the Tōkai Shichifukujin, is enshrined.
- Grave of Watanabe Kazan.
- Jōhō-ji Kofun, an ancient burial mound.
