What it is

  • Independent Tendai-affiliated temple, founded as Aboshisan Jōraku-ji.
  • Main image is Senju Kannon.
  • Known as Nishidera, meaning 'West Temple'.
  • First temple of the Omi Saigoku Sanjusan Kannon Pilgrimage.

What to see

  • Main hall, rebuilt in 1360, is a National Treasure.
  • Three-storied pagoda, rebuilt in 1400, is a National Treasure.
