Jōshō-in Temple is a historic Nichiren Buddhist site with unique stone statues, rebuilt after a 1952 fire.

What it is

  • A temple of the Honmon Butsuryū-shū branch of Nichiren Buddhism.
  • Founded in 1831, converted from an earlier hall.
  • Designated tangible cultural property of Oyama Town.
  • Nichiren stayed here in 1274 and 1282.

  • Current main hall and living quarters, rebuilt in 1957.
  • Stone Dōsojin statues.
  • Site where Nichiren drew and bestowed a Hokke Mandala.
