Kaihō-ji Temple
海宝寺
Kaihō-ji Temple is an Ōbaku Zen temple with historic buildings and unique vegetarian cuisine.
What it is
- It is an Ōbaku sect temple.
- Founded between 1716 and 1736.
- Founder was Kōdō Genchō, 12th abbot of Manpuku-ji.
- Grounds were once Date Masamune's Fushimi Castle residence.
What to see
- The Butsuden (Buddha hall) was built in 1764.
- The Hōjō (abbot's quarters) was built in 1764.
- Main gate sign reads 'Fucha Daihonzan Kaiso Dōjō'.

- 9-minute walk from Sumizome Station.
- Sumizome Station is on the Keihan Main Line.
