Kanpuku-ji
観福寺
Kanpuku-ji was a historic Buddhist temple, now gone, but its legacy remains through artifacts.
What it is
- A Jodo-shu Buddhist temple, originally Shingon-shu.
- Founded by Hino Sozu, a disciple of Kukai.
- Known as Urashima-dera along the Tokaido road.
- Abolished as a temple in 1872 after a fire.
What to see
- The main deity, a standing Kannon statue, is now at Keiun-ji.
- Remaining stone monuments are managed by Renpo-ji.
