Kashima Amatarashiwake Shrine

• One of four Engishiki-style shrines in Kurokawa-gun.
• Estimated to have been founded in the 800s.
• Formerly called Okame Daimyojin and Iwashita Myojin.
• Renamed Kashima Amatarashiwake Shrine in the Meiji era.

What to see

• A 500-600 year old Akagashi tree.
• The tree is 20m tall and 5.8m in circumference.
• Kameishi is a 3.8m by 1.9m rock.
• The rock is shaped like a turtle.
• The current shrine building, constructed in 1905.
