Kitano Tenman Shrine
北野天満神社
Historic shrine in Kobe dedicated to learning, next to Weathercock House, a short walk from Sannomiya Station.
What it is
- Shrine founded in 1180 by Dainagon Kunitsuna.
- Dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, god of scholarship.
- Revered as the guardian deity of Kitano Village.
- The area around it became known as Kitano.

- Main hall, worship hall, and shinsenjo from the Edo period.
- Four auxiliary shrines on the grounds.
- Located next to the Weathercock House.
